Puppy training It's not too early to think about puppy training. The critical period for a puppy to respond well to socialization is from 8 weeks to 20 weeks of age. Your puppy needs exposure to a variety of other people: men, women, and children as well as other puppies and adult dogs. Don't forget car rides and leash training too. The more a puppy is exposed to the conditions that will be a part of his world at this formative stage, the better pet he will be. A well-socialized puppy is a happy puppy with a happy owner.

Puppy training Free puppy socialization on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the lower level training room at Gehrman Animal Hospital. Enter from the lower parking lot. No advanced registration required, but call ahead to confirm that the class is being held.

Classes are led by Mona Elder, a professional dog trainer for Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota. With over 12 years of training dogs and involvement in many dog-affiliated clubs and sports, Mona brings wisdom and advice to pet owners. Formal puppy training classes and adult classes are also available.  Call for more information.
